Doris Day原名Doris Von Kappelhoff，1922年4月3日出生于俄亥俄州的辛辛那提。她是美国二战后流行音乐歌手中名气最大的一位。她的童年是梦想成为舞蹈家，15岁的一场车祸改变了她的命运，就开始在电台及俱乐部驻唱谋生，至40年代中期已经是知名的唱片歌星。将其姓氏改为Day后，便在Bob Crosby乐队内充当歌手。后来在Les Brown乐队中充当歌手时，由哥伦比亚唱片公司为他们录制的唱片《Sentimental Journey》销售超过一百万张。

48年首次演出电影《海上罗曼史》，其阳光形象很快就获得观众喜爱，在50年代终于成为一颗影歌双栖的红星。尤其是几部与洛赫逊及卡莱葛伦主演的电影更创下很高的票房记录，59年的《枕边细语》也获奥斯卡最佳女主角提名。68年因精神崩溃而终止了电影事业，数年后痊愈，转往电视界主持自己的综艺节目。
